Hewis Golf Design was born in 2004. What started out as a hobby has developed into something a lot bigger than I ever expected. I, like all visitors to this site, have been interested in Golf Course Architecture for a very long time - as long as I can remember actually. I still remember sitting in school drawing plans of holes in my text books, when I should have been listening to what I was there for.

As the years went on I became interested in PC's and what they had to offer to satisfy my addiction to course design. In the early years there was the Jack Nicklaus series of computer golf games that came with a designer, initially I thought it couldn't get any better, being able to put my hand drawn designs into almost a 3D environment and able to walk around and play my designs. Then a few years later, along came the Links series of golf games and in 2001 came Microsoft's Links 2001. This software came with the Arnold Palmer Course Designer (APCD). All my prayers were answered. Here was a program that could replicate anything (well almost) you could think of and make it look almost real.

The next version of the game, Links 2003, came with an updated version of the APCD giving us a few more goodies to play with. There was no support or instructions on how to use it, it just came as a free add on with the game, if you wanted to use it, "learn it yourself" we were told. Well after using it for around 6 years, I think I have pretty much learnt all I can and am now very satisfied with the results. Myself, along with numerous others around the globe are now reaching levels of realism that Microsoft never dreamt of.

I am now doing some work with real design firms in the visualisation field, allowing Architects and Developers to see and play their designs before a single shovel of soil is moved. I have been fortunate enough to even have some input in the redesign of a couple of holes at my home course, the Wagga Wagga Country Club. The WWCC is available for the game as well, there are now thousands of people that have never set foot in Australia that have 'played' the WWCC.

I invite you to have a good look around this site. I am sure you will find something of interest. If you wish to utilise my services, please contact me through my contact page.

Thanks
